Saptha 2.0, a notable seven-day residential program, was designed to provide young adults aged 18 to 24, who have faced adversity or are grappling with mental health challenges, with a transformative experience. Held in Kasaragod, Kerala, the workshop attracted twenty participants from across the state and some from other regions of India.
In January, Fireflies conducted a workshop named 'Vailoppilli poems and Psychology' at Chimminikood. The workshop was conducted by Mrs. Athira (Malayalam teacher), who discussed various poems of Vailopillai and their connections to psychology. Seven people participated in that session. The people who attended the workshop got to know more about Vailopillai's poems, and it deeply touched many hearts.
In February, Fireflies organized an outreach program held at Munnad People's College in the Kasargod district as part of the Kannur University Kalolsavam. The primary objective of this program was to involve youth in various activities aimed at enhancing their interpersonal skills, management abilities, team coordination, and effective communication. Additionally, the program sought to engage the youth and raise awareness about the Fireflies community. Activities such as Brain Cycle, brain games, an art stall, and a postbox for anonymous messages from strangers were included as part of the outreach efforts.
On March 8th, Daya celebrated International Women's Day by hosting a special workshop for children with autism. Seventeen dedicated volunteers came together to provide a range of engaging activities, fostering creativity and social skills in a supportive environment. We deeply appreciate the volunteers' commitment, which made the day both impactful and memorable for the children. Thank you to everyone involved for your invaluable support in making a difference.
Aspire is a one-day workshop for young adults, conducted by the Fireflies community at ITI Kasaragod, IHRD Kumbla, and GPM College Manjeshwar. The main goal of this program is to provide training in soft skills such as enhancing confidence, developing strong social skills, enhancing emotional intelligence, and building critical thinking skills. The workshops mostly include many activities that enhance both personal and professional skills. This workshop was very helpful for young adults to improve their skills in various sectors.
In March, NSS volunteers of Government College Kasaragod visited Chimminikood as part of their NSS camp. Firstly, the members of the Fireflies community gave an orientation about Fireflies, its structure, vision, mission, and how it works. After that, an integration session took place between the NSS volunteers and Fireflies members. The Fireflies members conducted an ice breaking session to help people get to know each other. The students were very happy and interested in the activities of Fireflies.
On April 20th, Fireflies conducted a workshop named “Digital Detox Managing stress and Anxiety”at Chimminikoo from 3pm to 5pm.The session was led by Amrutha Ravi, Psychiatric Social Worker, where she provided an interactive session by covering topics such as anger management, anxiety, stress management and how mobile addiction affects the emotional imbalance among people.There were seven participants for the session and they gained insights about the actual term meaning of words such as stress and anxiety and how to tackle it effectively.
On May 5th, Fireflies participated in “Koottam” which is an NGOs carnival and a volunteering activity held at Layola School Thiruvanthapuram .About 16 NGOs participated in the carnival and fireflies got an opportunity to have a good connection with them all.The major objectives of participating in the carnival was to increase the outreach of the Fireflies and for fund raising.Eight members of Fireflies joined the event where they got opportunities to engage with interactive volunteering activities, workshops, fun games, food fest and a lively music concert.One of the best moments of the event for Fireflies was, Mr.Gopala Krishna IAS mentioned Fireflies in his speech as the stall arranged by the team was somewhat unique and our activities are also different from other NGOs present there.This program really inspired the fireflies members and encouraged them to do more creative initiatives for the community.
In the month of May , From 18 to 19 , Fireflies conducted a volunteer meet up at Green Wind Resort ,Wayanad .The meetup was exclusively for those who have journeyed with fireflies. About 15 volunteers participated for the event along with the team members.The event started with a welcoming session and ice breaking session led by Arshil.Within two days the volunteers were provided with many activities like, experience sharing, cultural events, nature walk, games, brainstorming about the strategies for fundraising and finally had a trip to En Ooru Tribal Village at Lakkidi.The event was an opportunity for the volunteers to foster a sense of belongingness and to engage and connect with Like minded individuals.
On May 22nd , Fireflies conducted a workshop named “Mastering Knots :A Hands on Workshop” at Chimminikood from 2:30pm to 5pm .The session was led by Civil Defense Corp Shahbaz Abdullah and Ex Senior Ranger Mate Janitha. The session included both practical and theoretical knowledge about the different types of knots that can be used in daily life as well as in emergency situations. Seventeen members participated session were they got chances to learn about different types of knots .The workshop ended by having a feedback session were all participants shared their experiences and suggestions.
On 2nd June, Fireflies in collaboration with Kolay Library conducted a musical event at road side of vidyanagar .The event was inaugurated by Kasargod Municipality Chairman Mr.Abbas Bheghum.The event was conducted in support of Kasargod municipality and Kasargod Police.Many youngsters joined the event and made the event a great success with their mesmerizing musical skills. The event gained public attention and support from them.The main aim of the program was to engage the youngsters and to enhance their socializing activities and provide them an opportunity to engage with the community and also to exhibit their talents.
On 16th June from 3 pm to 5:30pm , Fireflies conducted a session on the topic “From Superstition to Science: The Mandate of Article 51A (h) at ASAP Skill Park, Kasargod. The session explored the transition from superstitious beliefs to scientific reasoning, emphasizing the importance of developing a scientific temper as mandated by Article 51A(h). The session was well managed by Mr.Dev Anand ,Regional Manager , Tinkerspace.in Robotics & Science Tutor by incorporating his own personal experiences and made the session more interesting.There were a total of 16 participants, who actively participated by providing their valuable suggestions and feedbacks.The session provided the participants with an opportunity to discuss and share their personal experiences regarding the topic and to open up their views regarding superstitions exiting in India.
On 29th June from 10:30am to 12:30pm Fireflies conducted a Zumba session with an expert instructor ZIN Drishya Damodharan at ASAP Skill Park, Kasargod.The one hour Zumba session was filled with latest tracks and energetic dance move with enthusiastic participants.There were only a few participants a number of five, but the energy and spirit they had was appreciable.The major factor behind the success of the session was the positive attitude of the instructor Zin Drishya Damodharan who is an International Lcensed Zumba Instructor.The high energy workout made the participants moving , sweating and smiling.All participants were really happy and enjoyed the session which reflected in their valuable feedbacks.
